A. Background
Multiculturalism is not an alien concept for Asian people in general and Indonesian people in particular. The spirit of unity in diversity has been the country people’s ideology since the Majapahit era. Yet, in the last thirty years, this perspective has been widely neglected, and superficially understood. Conflicts based on racist, ethnical, religious, and class prejudices and hatred end in loss, deaths and disasters. Education and educational institutions have a responsibility to generate young people with good understanding and skills about living in harmony in diversity. Through education, the multicultural nation’s character is established so that citizens have the ability to live in the international universe.
B. Aims
The seminar is aimed at exploring multiculturalism and its implementation in the field of education, particularly in language and art education.
